This article introduces the Video Scheduler in DIVA Back Office.
Note: DIVA's Back Office Video Scheduler is only relevant for clients using the DIVA end-to-end solution. Clients using their own online video platform (OVP) ingest videos via APIs into the video catalog.
The following topics are covered here:
- What is the Video Scheduler?
- What are sessions?
- Live streaming types
- Adjusting the Video Scheduler view
- How do I know what's currently being broadcast?
- Session icons
- Session options
- Session color coding and categorizations
What is the Video Scheduler?
DIVA’s Video Scheduler is a Back Office feature showing all live sessions within a calendar. Video items display in the video catalog. Clients can use the scheduler to automate the video workflow (schedule, start, stop, edit, etc).
Video sources either come from a customer or an external video platform. DIVA Back Office is responsible for providing packaging for multi-bitrate video streaming.
Read our create sessions article for information on creating and publishing sessions.
Note: The Video Catalog and the Video Scheduler are linked — for each session, there is a video catalog entity. Each new session creates a new related live video in DIVA Back Office which appears in the video catalog.
The Video Scheduler supports APIs, which support the same actions as in the Back Office UI. Ingestion often uses APIs, and this operation is a partially manual process.
What are sessions?
A DIVA Back Office session is a video streaming entity scheduled at a precise moment in time, with an estimated duration. Session streaming can be automated or operator-controlled and scheduled via an API or by manual input.
DIVA supports the ability to create session types (managed by Deltatre Project teams), e.g.:
- Eyes on glass — events that require constant monitoring
- Non-eyes on glass session — events that do not require monitoring
- Unpublished sessions — draft state
Live streaming types
There are two types of live streaming within DIVA Back Office:
- Linear (24/7) — constant live streaming with customizable window (suggested range from 2 minutes and no more than 24 hours). Linear streams are created only in the video catalog as individual entities and do not require an entity in the scheduler.
- Events — turned on/off when required
We can create events with the same source (channel) as used for live linear. Each session creates a video inside the video catalog.
Adjusting the Video Scheduler view
When looking at the scheduler, the date and time display at the top of the timeline with channels listed on the left-hand side. An orange marker and timer represent the real time. Each row represents a different channel that is configured in accordance with project needs. Channels schedule live session recordings on a selected media service resource.
Options at the top of the Video Scheduler allow you to adjust the view by applying specific filters.
- Adjust the Video Scheduler view with the following functionality:
- Filter by channels or groups of channels
- Jump to current time
- Select timezone
- Jump back/forward -24h/+24h
- Calendar picker
- Adjust timeline grid view (1-24hrs)
- Advanced settings (layout, show/hide session replicas, session window settings)
- Search
How do I know what's currently being broadcast?
The orange timeline marker updates in real-time with a visual timer. When scheduled content reaches the current time, the timeline marker sits on top of the session(s), as a progress indicator.
Sessions currently broadcast are represented by a green line beneath the session block. Completed broadcasts that have been archived are shaded dark gray and events scheduled in the future display in light gray.
Session icons
Session title icons
DIVA's scheduler supports icons that display within the session blocks within the title for operators to quickly identify processes.
Icons in line with the session title, e.g., the eye icon, are configurable on a per-project basis — see the example below showing the eye icon representing the eyes-on-glass session type:
Session process icons
Icons beneath the session title represent the start and stop modes and are not configurable. See the example below:
The icon situated on the left represents the start mode, while the icon on the right reflects the stop mode.
= Auto stop/start | |
= Manual stop/start for a session is required | |
= attention required; an issue with session |
Define auto and manual stop/start settings during the session creation within the DETAIL tab:
Session options
Right-click on a session block to view the session channel, title, status, and further options, including:
- Edit
- Copy
- Move
- Start
Session color coding and categorizations
Session color coding and categorization are configurable and managed by Deltatre Project teams.
DIVA Back Office scheduler supports session color coding and categorization to visually differentiate between session types, for example, eyes on glass, non-eyes on glass, and unpublished, as well as values.
The following options are customizable:
- Session category — assign colors to the top border of the session that match a pre-defined value, e.g., Premier League events = green.
- Session description/title — modify the title/description color for sessions that match
- Session container — change the opacity with 50% transparency
- Session icons — specify custom icons in line with project needs
